Tuition Assistance
Supporting Families in the Mission of Catholic Education
At Holy Spirit School, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to grow in faith and learning. To help make a Catholic education accessible, we offer tuition assistance each year for qualifying families. Families may qualify for financial aid through The BASIC Fund, the Diocese of Oakland’s Family Aid for Catholic Education (F.A.C.E.), or Holy Spirit School’s own Tuition Assistance Program.
* Please note that Holy Spirit School family must apply every year to receive tuition assistance to determine if they qualify. Returning families who have significantly different economic circumstances this year may receive more or less assistance than they received last year.

The BASIC Fund (Bay Area Scholarships for Inner-City Children) offers scholarships to low-income families to help cover tuition at private schools in the Bay Area.
Eligibility:
- Available to students entering a private school for the first time (Preschool–8th Grade)
- Awards are based on income and household size
- Scholarships are granted on a first-come, first-served basis
Important Dates and other information:
See website for application start dates, deadlines as well as renewal information.
The Family Aid for Catholic Education (F.A.C.E.) program is funded and administered by the Diocese of Oakland.
Process:
By applying for Holy Spirit School’s Tuition Assistance (through FACTS Grant Aid and Assessment application), your information is automatically shared with F.A.C.E. – no separate form is needed.
F.A.C.E. reviews applications and communicates award decisions directly to Holy Spirit School.
Eligibility:
Families with students in elementary (K-8) may qualify. FACE does not award Pre-K or TK students.
HSS Tuition assistance is available on a yearly basis to Holy Spirit School families (Pre-K to 8th grade) who qualify. Holy Spirit School sets aside a limited amount of funds each year to offer tuition assistance to families in need. Decisions will be made to help as many families as possible. Because this assistance is based on need, we will ask for relevant financial information. All information is kept strictly confidential.
Application:
At the time of registration, request for tuition assistance should be made by also completing the FACTS Grant Aid and Assessment application. Applications must be completed and on file to qualify.
Important dates:
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis to help those in need; however, first round awards for each school year are typically determined by April 15. In order to meet this date, we strongly recommend that applications be completed by the end of February.
